System design interview prep

System design interview prep, on designs that actually run.

Learn the building blocks, practise high-level and low-level design problems that are graded by what your design does under load, and rehearse the real thing with an AI interviewer. One canvas from the first lesson to the last mock.

What is a system design interview?

A system design interview asks you to design a real product, such as a chat app, a payment ledger or a rate limiter, in about 45 to 60 minutes. You clarify requirements, estimate load, sketch the architecture, then defend trade-offs in storage, caching, consistency, failure handling and cost. It tests judgement, not memorised answers.

How do I prepare for a system design interview?

Start with the fundamentals: latency, throughput, replication, partitioning, caching and queues. Then practise full problems end to end, out loud, against a clock. On ArchiDepth you learn each building block, build designs on a canvas that simulates traffic and failures, and rehearse with an AI mock interviewer that scores you on evidence.

What is the difference between HLD and LLD interviews?

High-level design (HLD) is about services, data stores, queues and how the system scales and fails. Low-level design (LLD), often a machine coding round in India, is about classes, interfaces and design patterns inside one service. Senior loops usually include both, so ArchiDepth grades each: HLD under simulated load, LLD by its class design.

How long does system design interview preparation take?

Most engineers need four to eight weeks of steady practice, depending on experience. A workable plan is one or two weeks on fundamentals, then three or more full problems a week, with a mock interview every week to find gaps. Practising aloud matters as much as reading: interviews reward explaining decisions clearly.

Everything the loop tests, in one place.

  • A free system design course

Seven tracks from fundamentals and building blocks to HLD, LLD, design patterns, reliability and security, and AI systems.

  • An architecture simulator

Drive traffic through your design, inject failures and read latency, saturation and monthly cost in real units.

  • Graded HLD and LLD problems

Hand-written problems graded by what your design does under load, and by how your classes are built.

  • AI system design mock interviews

A timed interview with an AI interviewer, spoken or typed, and a scored report with a level estimate.

FAQ

Questions? Answered plainly.

Is ArchiDepth free for system design interview prep?
The course and the architecture simulator are free, and five Easy practice problems are free with an account. The AI features, including AI mock interviews and AI reviews, and the rest of the practice problems are part of Pro.
Does ArchiDepth cover system design for AI and LLM systems?
Yes. The course has an AI systems track, and the practice catalogue includes grounded AI answer problems, so you can practise designing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and other LLM-backed systems with the same load, failure and cost evidence as any other design.
Is it useful for FAANG and big tech system design rounds?
The problems follow the shapes big tech and product companies ask about, from feeds and chat to ledgers and failover, and the AI interviewer runs the same phases: requirements, estimation, design, deep dive and wrap-up. ArchiDepth makes no claim about any company’s actual questions.
